Grad School 69

So as I am about to start further grad school, here's another inspirational song.
To the tune of Bryan Adams' Summer of 69. Apologies in advance.

i got my first thesis topic,
after a year and a half,
i researched and i lost my sleep,
advisor just sat and laughed.

me and some guys from grad school,
had a group and we worked real hard,
jimmy quit, jody got married,
i shoulda known, i was a retard.

oh, and when i look back now,
that summer seemed to last forever,
and if i had the choice,
no, i'd never wanna be there,
that was the mistake of my life.

ain't no use in complaining,
when you got a paper due,
spent my evenings in the lab doing coding,
and that's when i got the news.

flashing on my desktop's screen,
dismissal email to whomsoever,
oh and as i sipped some caffeine,
i knew that i was not that clever,
it was the mistake of my life.
back in the summer of '69.

man, time was killin' us,
we were old and jobless,
we needed a life.
i guess grad school can last forever,
forever, yea.

and now the time has changed,
job offers have come and gone,
and when i look at my college degree,
think about it, wonder what went wrong.

flashing on my desktop's screen,
acceptance letter, grad school from heaven,
oh the way i dreamed of graduating,
with a GPA three point nine-seven,
that was the mistake of my life.
back in the summer of '69.

Understanding the misunderstanding:
As much as it may appear from this and previous posts that the author does nothing but complain about grad school, he wishes to establish concretely that he, in fact, loves it, which should be quite evident from the fact that he just doesn't want to get out of it, and also that such bouts of ingenious creativity are purely for recreational purposes and are necessary to vent the frustration that becomes an indispensable part of the life of a grad student. So there.
