Turn The Thesis Page
Another example of the kind of creativity that non-stop, 24/7 work can stir in a person.
Yet another song on grad-life, Metallica, the inspiration this time.
To the music of Metallica's of 'Turn The Page' (original by Bob Seger):
on a far and lonesome campus,
east of the Pacific,
you can listen to the grads' tummys,
moanin' out so pathetic,
you think about the noodles,
or free food you had,
the night before.
but your thoughts will soon be wanderin',
the way they always do,
when you're codin' 16 hours,
and there's nothin' else you do,
and you don't feel much like codin',
you just wish your degree was through.
here I am, on the keyboard again,
there I am, at research stage,
here I go, writin' my thesis again,
there I go, turn the page.
so you walk into the classroom,
strung out, in the corridor,
you can feel the eyes upon you,
as you write on the blackboard,
you pretend it doesn't bother you,
but you just want to go home.
yeah, most times you can hear 'em talk,
other times they don't,
all the same old clichés,
"Mr. TA, can you postpone?"
and you always seem outnumbered,
and you give them a take-home.
(give a real test)
here I am, on the keyboard again,
there I am, at research stage,
here I go, writin' my thesis again,
there I go, turn the page.
out there in projector light,
you've a million lies to say,
every line of your code,
you try to hide away,
and the sweat pours down your forehead,
with the graphs that you display.
later in the evenin',
as you lie awake in bed,
the echoes of your committee's questions,
ringin' in your head,
and eat the day's last noodles,
rememberin' that you failed.
(your defense failed)
here I am, on the keyboard again,
there I am, at research stage,
here I go, writing my thesis again,
there I go, turn the page.
there I go, yeah, here I go, yeah, yeah
there I go, yeah, here I go, yeah
here I go-oh-o, there I go
so I got a job.
